In 1985,  we were accepted as cottage parents for a 1½ year commitment at Queen Louise Home for Children.

Like most decent people, we care about all children. And it was our great privilege as young adults to be entrusted with a group of beautiful children.

We found so much joy and delight in working with the wonderful staff and residents. Though we were often challenged by the job, we became better people because of it.

Much of our emerging sense of ourselves as responsible, compassionate, competent (though imperfect) adults was formed during our time at Queen Louise Home.

And, we like to think that we gained a head start in parenting our own children because of our experience as cottage parents.

Our personal history with those kids will always hold a special place of fondness and gratitude in our hearts for the children of the Virgin Islands. And to this day, we are proud of our time in service.

We were and are still inspired by the devotion of the staff to the children.

The residents are held and cherished when they need extra love, acceptance, and attention during a precarious time in their lives.

We believe that the good people and work done at Queen Louise Home will follow the children in ways that will make a positive difference in their futures.

Catherine and Eddie are wonderful friends at Queen Louise Home for Children, and their service and support have helped children in our care to heal, love, and grow.

Their story inspires us to serve and care, and we hope they inspire you to share your love.
